Yeah, good points, I suppose. In the end, it's just a nice joke about
Lynda's lack of fashion sense and Spike's know-how. Even though it's their
first date, they already know each other well enough to let their
relationship find this natural form. Great stuff.

This discussion leads me to two points. Firstly, I love Lynda's green
jacket. Jackets are one of my passions, and I love spotting them in TV
shows. They are easy to spot because they recur more than other clothing
since most people only have one or two jackets. My favourite of all,
though, is Lynda's very cool green jacket. Scruffy, all weather, but still
official looking in a hard-edged way, she is rarely without it, even
donning it over her pyjamas at times. It is very much part of the Lynda
picture. I don't suppose it was sold at one of the auctions, or anyone
knows what became of it?

Secondly, Spike has an umbrella with him in At Last a Dragon, because, as
Murray points out, it is a wet evening. However, it looks great - he
carries it well and it adds much to his style. Think about how he
approaches the door with it - wheeling it, adjusting it, swaggering with
it, magnificent stuff. My pondering then is, after Spike has a building
fall on him, they needed to show he was injured. But they chose not to
give him crutches but a rather old-fashioned walking cane. My theory is
that this was once again to allow Dexter to show off his theatrical skills
with such objects. And if you watch how he enters the newsroom (with the
film-noir style narration) you can see that he really gets the mileage out
of it. The man is a genius with a cane, so it makes sense to give him one
again.

Also, now I think about it, didn't Spike take his umbrella when he was N.V.
Gillespie? (Yesterday's News)

What do people think of this theory? Can anyone think of any other
incidents where Spike goes out of his way to have a stick? And where did
Dexter learn such style - from his early days on stage?
