Bob Newhart is a very droll comedian who started in the 60's about the same
time as George Carlin and Lenny Bruce, back when Peter Cook and Dudley Moore
were a comedy team. Newhart's first big success was with a comedy albumn
(showing my age -- I remember albumns!!) called "The First Family". He
did a lot of standup and did "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson" a lot. He
hit it big in tv in the 70's with "The Bob Newhart Show" where he played a
psychiatrist, Bob Hartley with Suzanne (i know i can't spell it right so why
bother I'll just spell it phoenetically) Plishette (dark hair, husky voice).
Then came "Newhart" in the 80's where he was an innkeeper in Vermount with
those wacky neighbors, the brothers named Larry, Darryl, and Darryl. "Bob"
sucked so they cancelled it and this fall he has "Hiller & Diller" with Judd
Hirsh from "Taxi" and the movie "I'm Not Rappaport." I think "H&D" sounds
interesting....
Think of him as an old Jerry seinfeld....
See now I don't feel bad for wondering who Carol Vortman was.....
